A bomber jacket from an old mink coat
This coat came to us for remodelling. Its unusual pattern came from the different textures of regular and sheared mink. But it was very uncomfortable to wear: a poor cut made the shoulders ride up and restricted movement. Our client also disliked the collar and short sleeves.
It took a tremendous amount of work!
The coat was too small and uncomfortable, with sleeves that were too short, so we couldn’t avoid adding material. We added a sheared mink pelt for the collar and used leather strips between the fur on the bomber’s cuffs and hem.
- We recut the sleeves as raglan sleeves so their stripes would match the coat’s pattern. We replaced the very narrow sections, lengthened the sleeves and added cuffs.
- We made a turn-down collar.
- We added sheared mink sections at the chest, echoing the main pattern, to increase the size.
- We created a ribbed-knit effect on the cuffs and hem by inserting leather strips between the fur.
- And we replaced the lining with one our client loved.
Et voilà — a bomber jacket!
